(KRON) — A Santa Rosa man who allegedly threatened to kill his daughter was later arrested by deputies after he shot himself, according to law enforcement officials.

The father was identified as Mauricio Flores, 50. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said it was alerted around 6 p.m. Monday that Flores was threatening to drive to a residence in Guerneville to kill his daughter and a second family member.

Deputies found the father’s vehicle parked outside his home on Hampton Way in Santa Rosa and saw Flores retreat inside, investigators said.

Flores barricaded himself in his home and threatened deputies, triggering an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team, negotiators, and deputies, Sgt. Juan Valencia wrote.

During the standoff, Flores shot himself in the chest, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The injury was later confirmed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter, he collapsed in the doorway of the residence. Deputies moved in, secured Flores in handcuffs, and immediately rendered medical aid,” Valencia wrote.

He was transported to a hospital, where medical staff determined his injuries were not life-threatening.

Detectives from the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DVSA) Unit served a search warrant at his residence and found a firearm. Flores was arrested on suspicion of making death threats, resisting arrest, and threatening violence toward law enforcement officers.

“Flores is currently hospitalized. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the county jail,” Valencia wrote.
