Around five to six hundred people showed up at the state capitol to protest the Trump administration’s policies. Organizers have held similar protests at the capitol several times this year.
“I think it really shows the importance of the historical moment that we are in,” said Jonathan Eshnaur of the Kansas National Education Association. “The fact that people would be willing to take what has somewhat become a tradition that has lost its rough that was built on celebrating labor that they are taking time out to come out and do some collective action.”
The protesters were advocating for:
- Stopping the billionaire takeover corrupting our government.
- Protecting and defending Medicaid, Social Security and other programs for working people.
- Fully funded schools, and healthcare and housing for all.
- Stopping the attacks on immigrants, Black, indigenous, trans people, and all our communities.
- Investing in people not wars.
