Brady man dies after rollover crash while fleeing law enforcement
In a fatality crash reported issued by TxDPS on Aug. 29, the agency stated that 29-year-old Jeremy Clarence Morgan of Brady died at 7:21 p.m. on Aug. 26 due to injuries sustained in the crash. Prior to his death, Morgan was transferred from Hendrick Hospital to John Peter Smith Hospital.
According to TxDPS, the collision occurred at 6:21 a.m. on Aug. 26 in Taylor County on United States Highway 83 near the Tuscola city limits.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Morgan, driving a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck — a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Concho County earlier that day, as stated in an initial report released by TxDPS — was traveling north on U.S. Highway 83 while “fleeing from a Department of Public Safety trooper attempting to make a traffic stop.”
TxDPS stated that Morgan was “operating at a very high rate of speed while navigating a curve in the road, drove on the wrong side of the roadway, overcorrected, and skidded east through the east shoulder and off the roadway.” His vehicle “continued out of control through a drainage ditch, entered a parking lot, and overturned, striking several stationary objects.”
The truck would continue to roll before coming to a rest “on the railroad tracks off the east side of US 83.”
In its initial report on the incident, TxDPS stated that Morgan sustained “life-threatening injuries” due to the crash and was transported to Hendrick Hospital for treatment. The agency said Morgan would have faced multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention in a vehicle and unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of marijuana, should he have recovered.
