At around 9:35 p.m. on Aug. 29, Herriman police officers responded to reports of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on Teton Ranch Drive. First responders arrived at the scene to find a 16-year-old boy with significant injuries.
Paramedics treated the teen, who was then flown by helicopter to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.
According to police, three juveniles had arrived together and were exploring the area, which is a residential development mostly under construction. At one point, the victim was outside the vehicle while it was moving and was struck by the front of the vehicle.
“Contributing factors leading up to the crash are still being investigated, but current information suggests the driver did not see the victim in front of the vehicle,” a press release from Herriman Police states. “The driver, a female juvenile, remained on scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation, as is a second juvenile male who was a passenger in the vehicle at the time.”
The South Valley CRASH Investigators Unit will head the investigation into this incident. Due to the age of the individuals involved, police will not be providing any identifying information at this time.
