Petaluma PD said “officers spotted several San Francisco 49ers jerseys in plain view inside the vehicle with security devices attached” when Michael Calapati, 44, was pulled over during a traffic stop on Aug. 23.
Investigators confirmed the stolen haul of the star running back’s jerseys came from a local DICK’S Sporting Goods who just reported a theft. The approximate value of the recovered merchandise was not disclosed.
A further search of Calapati’s vehicle upturned a “scale and several individually packaged baggies of suspected methamphetamine,” said police.
Calapati remains in Sonoma County Jail where he faces possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and theft-related charges.
Due to the suspect’s allegedly extensive theft background, investigators said they were able to obtain a search warrant after he was taken into custody. Police said they located “two firearms, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen merchandise.”
Calapati faces additional charges due to the aforementioned home discovery, said police.
