Man accused in deadly West Side shooting in late 2024 facing felony murder charges

CHICAGO — A Chicago man is facing a slew of felony charges in connection with a deadly shooting that unfolded on the West Side last year.

Chicago police say 24-year-old Christopher Ford, a Douglas resident, has been charged with several felonies, including first-degree murder, murder with the strong probability of death or injury, aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Authorities say the charges stem from Ford’s alleged role in a shooting that unfolded in the 1800 block of South Loomis Street, in Pilsen, on Aug. 18, 2024, during which a man lost his life and a woman was critically injured.

While it is unclear what led up to the shooting, officers said Ford allegedly
approached a vehicle with three people inside and opened fire.

A 29-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman who were inside the vehicle were both struck by the gunfire.

The man later died from his injuries, while the woman was hospitalized in critical condition.

A third person who was inside the car at the time was uninjured.

Officers described Ford as “one of the offenders” who allegedly participated in the incident, but did not provide details on charges against anyone else who may have been involved.

Members of the Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force eventually caught up with Ford in South Shore on Monday, where he was taken into custody.

Ford is set to appear in court for a detention hearing on Thursday.
