AC Transit bus driver recovering after attack, suspect charged with attempted murder

RICHMOND, Calif. (KRON) — An AC Transit bus driver is recovering in the hospital after being violently attacked while behind the wheel outside the Richmond BART Station on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at 7:35 a.m., involving 54-year-old Mandingo Hayes of Richmond, who has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

“That situation is definitely scary,” said Eddie Moore Jr., a public transit passenger. “I wouldn’t wish that upon no bus driver because I know that they go through a lot to give us public transportation and a smooth ride.”

The bus operator was transported to a local hospital for treatment following the attack.

AC Transit issued a statement calling the event a deeply personal and traumatic experience for the driver, emphasizing the need for privacy during recovery and the ongoing criminal investigation.

The District Attorney’s Office is investigating the case but has not released further details as the investigation is still in its early stages.
