“It was one of the scariest moments of car trouble that I’ve ever had,” Nakoa Salna said on Action News at 10 on PHL17. She was headed home from work when her tire popped. “I couldn’t hit my breaks or swerve out of the way so I went over it and after that I noticed there were cars pulled along the side of the highway and I noticed my tire was going down so I joined them.”
Around 5 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police reports the nails fell off a truck and left at least 15 cars with flat tires that had to pull off to the shoulder to wait for AAA or a tow.
“We got the first call, but then call after call started to come in,” said AAA Spokesperson Jana Tidwell.
Troopers shut down several lanes for about an hour while they cleaned up the mess on the highway. Drivers that couldn’t replace their damaged tires with a spare, waited to be towed.
Tidwell warns drivers to check if their vehicle has a spare, because several car manufacturers are selling newer models without one.
