The Arkansas State Police (ASP) has released details on the crash involving the Mountain Home school bus last Friday afternoon on Arkansas State Highway 5 South, north of Tracy Ferry Road, or State Highway 341. No students were injured, but the driver of the vehicle that hit the bus was seriously injured. The name of the driver, a female from Lakeview, has not been released, but the report indicates she sustained suspected serious injuries and was taken to Baxter Health for treatment. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital.
There were 14 students on the bus, bus number 33, at the time of the accident. The driver, Devin Rodgers, was taken to Baxter Health where he was treated and released.
Our original story said there were 10 students on the bus. Superintendent Allyson Dewey says that was the number they originally had, but it was later updated to 14.
According to the ASP report, the accident happened when the bus was stopped on Highway 5 near Whispering Forest Drive to let students off, with its lights on, when the vehicle driven by the Lakeview woman struck the bus from behind. Her vehicle then left the roadway and overturned.
The highway was blocked for a while as the Lakeview was trapped in her vehicle. She was charged with careless and prohibited driving.
The accident happened at 4:10 Friday afternoon.
