Winnebago County man sentenced to 26 years for child sexual assault conviction

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Durand man convicted of sexual assault of a child has been sentenced to 26 years in prison.

Judge Debra Schafer sentenced Charles Hancock, 51, of Durand, to 16 years on the charge of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and 10 years for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley said that the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into Hancock on May 2nd, 2023, after receiving information accusing him of repeated sex assaults that happened between June and December 2022.

Hanley said Hancock, a registered sex offender from a prior conviction, was living in the same residence as the victim at the time.
