‘No threat to the public’: Situation on Catawba River in Belmont ends peacefully

BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A tense ‘situation’ on the Catawba River in Belmont has come to a safe end, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Authorities confirmed Monday afternoon that the incident had been resolved peacefully, with no injuries reported and no ongoing threat to the public.

Earlier in the day, Belmont Police had urged residents in nearby neighborhoods, including Catawba Cove Drive, The Conservancy, and the area around the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, to stay indoors as officers responded to ‘an active situation’ on the river.

A large police presence was visible, and authorities worked closely with other nearby agencies to keep everything under control. While specific details about the incident haven’t been shared, officials said that the response was handled carefully and that everyone is now safe.

Residents can now go about their day normally, and police thanked the community for staying clear of the area while they worked.

Queen City News is continuing to follow up with Belmont Police for any additional information.
