‘I thought I was going to feel something’: Man handed down six life sentences for killing four people in Dale City home

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man was ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison after killing four people in their Dale City home nearly three years ago, the Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

David Nathaniel Maine, 27, previously pleaded guilty to the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, rape and forcible sodomy in addition to multiple murder charges.

The charges against him stem from Oct. 17, 2022, when the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) received calls about a mass shooting at a Dale City home.

When police arrived, they found Maine, who claimed a stranger had entered the home and gunned down his roommates inside.

Investigators later learned, however, that when 42-year-old Kelly Victoria Sotelo and her husband, 44-year-old Miguel Duran Flores, arrived home, Maine shot and killed Flores.

Sotelo’s 13-year-old daughter ran out of the house as she yelled, “David, no!”

Investigators said 19-year-old Karrie Ayline Sotelo and 36-year-old Richard Revollar Corrales had been killed before Kelly Sotelo and Flores got home. Karrie Sotelo had also been sexually assaulted.

Kelly Sotelo’s body was later found in the house, along with Karrie Sotelo, who had suffered a fatal knife wound to her neck and was rolled up in a blanket.

PWCPD said an AR-15 rifle and a .22 caliber handgun were found in the home.

A note was later found on Maine’s computer that read, “I should not have killed them,” adding he hoped to die in his sleep. After he was arrested, he reportedly told police, “Today, I did some f—-d up s–t; crazy thing is, I thought I was going to feel something.”

Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Amy Ashworth called the act “one of the most horrific crimes in Prince William County history.”

Maine was sentenced on Aug. 21 to six life sentences, plus 53 years. Ashworth said it was a comfort to know he would never again be free.
