Janesville man who molested his daughter was sentenced to 18 years

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WTVO) — Brandon Stevens, 42, was sentenced to 18 years in the prison system after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter.

The teenage girl reported that she was molested by Stevens five years ago in 2023.

Stevens asked for a bench trial during his court proceedings, which resulted in him being found guilty by Rock County Court Judge Ashley Morse.

Prosecutors pushed for him to be sentenced to 30 years in prison, pointing to the fact that Stevens was convicted of sexually assaulting a teen when he was 22 years old.

Stevens’s attorney argued that he should receive probation, citing mental health issues and a challenging upbringing as a defense.

Another district attorney applauded the prosecutor’s efforts during the case.

“I think the fact that Brandon Stevens had the gall to ask for probation is an absolute joke,” said District Attorney Jason Sanders, “and I’m glad he’s on his way to prison.”  Sanders applauded Goulart and Detective Schoonover of the Janesville Police Department.  “Investigating old events is difficult, and putting a victim up on the stand to prove old events is nerve-wracking.  The only way to get justice here was hard work.  Our community should be thankful we have hard workers like Detective Schoonover and ADA Alex Goulart.”

Judge Morse sentenced Stevens to 10 years of prison time, followed by 8 years of extended supervision.
