Just before 6 p.m. on Aug. 15, Officer Daniel Todd was on his way to a reported traffic collision.
As he traveled east on Grangeville Boulevard toward 10th Avenue, police say a small pickup truck entered the road from East Street without yielding. Officer Todd was unable to avoid the truck and was thrown off his bike.
He was life-flighted to an area hospital with serious injuries to his arms and face. He has since undergone multiple surgeries and remains hospitalized with more surgeries to follow.
Officer Todd joined the Hanford Police Department in 2015 after serving in the Navy. In 2023, he joined the Motor Traffic team, where the city says he “made a tremendous impact through his passion for community engagement, experience, and innovation.”
He was honored in 2024 at New Testament Baptist Church’s Protect & Serve event for his outstanding public service and investigative work involving a fatal hit-and-run car crash.
The Peace Officers Research Association of California has created a fundraiser to help pay for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, and travel expenses for his wife and daughter.
Those interested in donating can find Officer Todd’s fundraiser on the Peace Officers Research Association of California website.
