Driver killed in fiery crash after chase from Byram to Jackson: MHP

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said a driver died during a fiery crash in Hinds County.

Troopers responded to a crash at the intersection of Elton Road and East Frontage Road just after 12:00 a.m. on August 20, 2025, at the request of Byram police.

According to MHP, Byram police were in pursuit of a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro that had been reported as stolen. They said the vehicle entered the city limits of Jackson, where the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

Troopers said the officers later located the vehicle, which had been involved in a fiery crash. They said the driver was unable to get out of the vehicle and died.

The deceased was taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Pearl for identification. This crash remains under investigation by MHP.
