SCOTT, La. (KLFY) — A home in Scott was severely damaged by a fire this morning, authorities said.

The Scott Fire Department responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. today to a house fire in the 100 block of Barracks Street, where crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters found a fire in the kitchen that had extended into the attic. Crews quickly contained the blaze, limiting further damage, authorities said.

The kitchen and attic above the stove sustained significant fire damage, with smoke damage
affecting the remainder of the residence, officials said.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was an unattended pot left on the stove. The occupant was able to get out of the home before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

Units from Carencro and Duson fire departments responded to provide assistance, officials said.

It was the second house fire in Scott in the last three days, after a kitchen fire in the 100 block of Burrow Drive Sunday morning.
