Harvard Fellows are recognized at Muscogee County School Board meeting

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Eight teachers from the Muscogee County School District spent part of their summer at Harvard University. They were recognized for their accomplishments at the School Board meeting Monday.

The teachers took part in a week-long Fellows program sponsored by the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation.

Since 2012, more than 60 local teachers have been selected as Harvard fellows, bringing back new ideas and strategies to their classrooms.

A few of the fellows spoke about what they learned. “What Harvard did for us was to create an environment where children feel important, where they feel like they belong. ” Said Robyn Robinson, a 5th-grade teacher at J.D. Davis Elementary School, “We invite them into the education, it’s not supposed to be the teacher teaching. Everyone is supposed to be involved all of us together in the long process.”

The fellows say they’re already sharing lessons from the experience with their students and colleagues across the district.
