Miller was arrested at the Walmart on 114th Street and Quaker Avenue. Court records stated Miller used self-checkout and scanned multiple items under a barcode for embroidery floss with a price tag of 53 cents. Court records said the total for Miller’s items should have been $137.90, but scanning the floss instead brought the purchase to $4.77.
A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice stated, “The agency is deeply disappointed, and his conduct is entirely unacceptable. TDCJ is taking action to separate him from the agency.”
As of Monday, Miller no longer appeared to be in custody at the jail.
Miller had 27 years of service with the TDCJ and has been the Senior Warden at the Wallace Unit since April.
