‘Dangerous’ Louisville inmate vanishes after accidental release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — Louisville authorities are searching for a reportedly dangerous inmate who was inadvertently released.

Kejaun Jackson was arraigned on June 20 on several violent charges, including strangulation and assault. The Louisville FOX affiliate, WDRB, reported that Jackson had allegedly threatened to kill a woman and four children.

Jefferson District Court Judge Kristina Garvey called the list of charges “a very concerning read.” She stated that “there’s no question that Mr. Jackson poses a danger.”

His bond was set at $250,000, but instead of being lodged in the Louisville Metro Correctional Center, Jackson vanished.

“He has a quarter of a million dollar bond that has not been posted, but he is somehow not at the jail anymore,” Judge Sarah Clay said on Aug. 11.

Jackson’s absence reportedly wasn’t noticed until then, 52 days after he’d last stood before a judge.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

Maj. Jason Logsdon, a spokesman for Metro Corrections, said after Garvey set Jackson’s cash bond on June 20, jail employees “in good faith believed” Jackson was instead put on home incarceration, and he was released.

But on Aug. 9, Jackson removed his GPS monitoring device and hasn’t been seen since.

Logsdon told WDRB that no one at Metro Corrections has been disciplined, but the department is working to “standardize language” in the bond orders to “prevent any miscommunication like this in the future.”

Judge Clay issued a warrant for Jackson’s arrest and ordered that he be held on a $1 million bond once captured.
