Evan’s Meat Market closes but finds new life in Preston Center

DALLAS (KDAF) — Evan’s Meat Market, the beloved Dallas butcher shop known for premium meats and Louisiana-inspired po’boys, will serve its final customers on Monday, August 18. Founded in January 2023 by Lafayette native Evan Meagher, the shop quickly became a neighborhood favorite for its house-cured products, warm hospitality, and Cajun flavors.

“This was an incredibly hard decision to make,” said Meagher. “Evan’s Meat Market was my first hospitality concept, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. The butcher shop allowed me to share a piece of my Louisiana roots with Dallas for the first time.”

While Meagher earned a loyal following and citywide recognition, the decision to close was not made lightly. Like many independent hospitality operators, he faced a perfect storm of rising product costs, staffing shortages, and shrinking margins—challenges that made it increasingly difficult to sustain the retail butcher model long term.

But the story doesn’t end here.

The spirit of Evan’s Meat Market continues just a few miles away at The PoBoy Shop in Preston Center, where the same team now serves authentic Louisiana hot and cold po’boys piled high, house-cured meats, and bold Cajun sides. Fresh French bread arrives daily from Langlinais Bakery in Lafayette, giving each bite an authentic Louisiana flavor. It’s the same flavor that made Evan’s a neighborhood staple—now reimagined in a fast-casual format designed for long-term growth.

“The truth is, The PoBoy Shop wouldn’t exist without Evan’s Meat Market,” Meagher said. “Sometimes what feels like the end is just the beginning.”

Evan’s Meat Market will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on August 18. A list of available products will be shared via email and social media on August 22, with pickups scheduled for August 27.
