17-year-old dies after hiking accident in Marin County
(KRON) — A 17-year-old died last week after a hiking accident in Marin County. According to a GoFundMe page, the teenager was hiking at the Marin Headlands on Aug. 11 when the accident happened.

He was identified as Aaron Baten Gramajo, who was a member of the San Rafael community. Aaron leaves behind two sisters and parents.

“At just 17, Aaron touched countless hearts with his kindness, laughter, and dreams for the future,” the GoFundMe states. “Unfortunately, on August 11th Aaron had an accident while doing something that he really loved, hiking at Marin Headlands.”

Aaron worked at Boichik Bagels in Larkspur for two years, the establishment said in an Instagram post. He was a rising senior at San Rafael High School, principal Joe Dominguez confirmed.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share that Aaron Baten Gramajo, a San Rafael High School rising senior, tragically passed away Monday evening,” Dominguez wrote in a letter to the school community. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Aaron grew up here in San Rafael, and his loss deeply affects so many, especially those in the Laurel Dell, Davidson and SRHS community who he and his family are closely connected with.”

The first day of school at SRHS is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20.

“We are deeply saddened about the tragic death of 17 year old Aaron Baten, our much loved team member of two years at Larkspur,” Boichik Bagels wrote.

According to GoFundMe, Aaron also worked at The Shack ice cream shop in Larkspur. His former employer said he was beloved by his coworkers and the kids he would serve ice cream to.

“Aaron was the hardest working, happiest employee and teammate at The Shack. The kids loved him, the team loved him and the customers adored him! He had the best energy and always looked like he was having fun even after hours of working! We are so sorry for your loss,” The Shack wrote.

According to the Marin Independent Journal, Aaron died after falling from a cliff. Details regarding the circumstances of the hiking accident have not yet been made clear.
