Alabama man, 81, killed in Dale County crash

DALE COUNTY, Ala. (TRIBUNE) — An 81-year-old Troy man was killed Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Dale County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Carroll Grant Hughes was fatally injured when the 2019 Ford F-250 he was driving struck a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer driven by Jaden Christopher Dunwoody, 24, of Dothan. Hughes, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dunwoody sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Dale Medical Center in Ozark for treatment.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, on U.S. 231 near the 54-mile marker, about five miles south of Ariton.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
