Pastor injured in Lexington church shooting released from hospital

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Pastor Jerry Gumm is out of the hospital after surviving the mass shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church that killed his wife and daughter.

Gumm, a pastor at Richmond Road Baptist Church, has been recovering from multiple gunshot wounds since the attack.

One bullet even struck his tongue—but doctors said that may have saved his life.

Gumm’s daughter, Christina Combs, 34, and wife, Beverly Gumm, 72, died on July 13 after Guy House allegedly opened fire at a small Lexington church, not long after shooting a Kentucky State Police trooper during a traffic stop.

Despite the heartbreak, the pastor said he’s determined to return to the pulpit and already knows the sermon he plans to preach when he does.
