According to Ogden Police Department, Officer Nathan Lyday was responding to a domestic disturbance call near Jackson Avenue on May 28, 2020, when a male subject opened fire. An Adult Probation and Parole officer was injured, and Officer Lyday was fatally shot.
“[Lyday] was a giant among men, no doubt about it,” said Jacob Sube, Chief of Police with Ogden City, “He served fifteen months in our department, but left a long-lasting impression on our department, on our city, and on our community.”

Today, August 14, 2025, Ogden City dedicated the Nathan J Lyday Field house at the Marshall N. White Community Center in honor of Officer Lyday. The field house will act as a community space for kids to play sports and for the community to gather.
Following the dedication of the Nathan J Lyday Field House, Ogden City held out their Night Out Against Crime event with the community. Night Out Against Crime is an annual event put on by Ogden Police Department to give residents the chance “to connect with officers, explore public safety vehicles, and learn about community services and crime prevention programs.”
Chief of Police Sube emphasized the importance of the Night Out Against Crime and said, “We’re not just out there handling calls, we want our community to be a partner with us.”
