DELCAMBRE, La. (
KLFY) — Law enforcement is enforcing the “We Will Act” to regulate drone use over the
Delcambre Shrimp Festival grounds, prioritizing public safety.
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais of Vermilion Parish has outlined specific drone regulations for the festival, emphasizing that these measures are in place to ensure the safety of attendees.
“We have exercised due diligence in verifying that the steps we are taking are proper and legal in light of our public safety responsibilities,” Langlinais said.
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is not seeking a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) to permanently establish a no-fly zone, but rather aims to manage drone operations during the festival.
Entities that operate drones for business purposes, such as photography and video services, are not prohibited from flying, provided they coordinate with the sheriff’s office.
Registered drone pilots with proper credentials will be allowed to coordinate their flight plans with law enforcement.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be present at the festival to assist with drone regulation and will conduct ramp checks and verify pilot credentials.
Violators of the drone regulations face fines of $5,000, up to one year in jail, and confiscation of their drones.
With these regulations in place, the 73rd Delcambre Shrimp Festival aims to maintain a safe environment for all attendees while accommodating authorized drone operations.
