CHP said it was notified of the incident at 5:28 p.m. A witness told officers that they heard what sounded like gunshots following the traffic collision.

“The shooting stemmed from a road rage incident involving both the victim and the suspect,” said CHP in a statement to KRON4 on Wednesday. “No other people involved beyond the victim and suspect.”

Investigators said they later learned the victim had checked themselves into a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound to their arm.

The eastbound lanes were shut down at 6:30 p.m. and reopened less than 30 minutes later.

CHP did not disclose whether or not the suspect is still at large.
