Shooting victim found after crash on eastbound Highway 84: CHP

(KRON) — The California Highway Patrol Hayward Area office said it is investigating a shooting that left one person injured after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on eastbound Highway 84, west of Interstate 880.

CHP said it was alerted of the incident at 5:28 p.m. A witness told officers that they heard what sounded like gunshots following the traffic collision.

“As officers were searching for the crash, a local hospital contacted the CHP’s Golden Gate Communications Center and reported that a patient had just walked in with a gunshot wound to their arm,” said CHP in a statement to KRON4. “It was later determined that the patient was the victim of the shooting.”

It is unclear what led to the crash, and the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet known.

CHP said the eastbound lanes were closed at 6:30 p.m. before being reopened less than 25 minutes later.

This is an active case. CHP said no further details are being provided at this time.
