Road rage triggered Highway 84 shooting in Hayward, says CHP
(KRON) — Road rage flared a crash-related shooting that injured one person and briefly closed down eastbound Highway 84 on Tuesday afternoon, says the California Highway Patrol Hayward Area office.

CHP said it was notified of the incident at 5:28 p.m. A witness told officers that they heard what sounded like gunshots following the traffic collision.

“The shooting stemmed from a road rage incident involving both the victim and the suspect,” said CHP in a statement to KRON4 on Wednesday. “No other people involved beyond the victim and suspect.”

Investigators said they later learned the victim had checked themselves into a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound to their arm.

The eastbound lanes were shut down at 6:30 p.m. and reopened less than 30 minutes later.

CHP did not disclose whether or not the suspect is still at large.
