City council members decided Tuesday that Bryan Sheridan, who has been serving as interim city manger, will take on the official city manager role full time.
Sheridan had a decades-long career in law enforcement before moving into City management, serving with the Texas Department of Public Safety for 20 years before becoming Sweetwater’s police chief in January 2021.
“As a native of Sweetwater, I am deeply honored to assume the responsibilities of City Manager
and to lead the community I consider home,” said Mr. Sheridan. “My tenure with the
Sweetwater Police Department provided me with an in-depth understanding of our city’s
strengths, challenges, and inherent potential. I am committed to collaborating with our esteemed Council, dedicated staff, and the residents of Sweetwater to cultivate a transparent and cooperative future that truly embodies the pride and promise of our community.”
Sheridan’s role as city manager begins effective immediately. He took over for the previous city manager, David Vela, who left the position in May 2025.
