Erin is strengthening; Temperatures are heating up

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- We have been tracking rounds of showers and storms for your Wednesday. A few of which have brought heavy rainfall to the region. Parts of northern Alabama and Northern Georgia were under a Flood Watch.

Thursday: Isolated showers and storms will be possible again tomorrow afternoon. With more sunshine in the forecast, get ready for warmer temperatures. Highs will reach into the lower 90s Thursday.

Weekend: The heat will continue to build this weekend, with afternoon highs in the lower 90s. Heat index readings are expected to reach near 105 degrees by Sunday. Isolated storms will still be in the forecast through the weekend.

Next Week: High pressure will slowly move back into the forecast next week, helping to dry us out. A few pop up showers will be possible but rain coverage will be limited. Temperatures will rise into the mid-90s.

Tropics: As of 5 PM this afternoon, Erin remains a tropical storm but is strengthening. The National Hurricane Center expects Erin to become a hurricane by Friday. It will continue to move westward over the next few days before making a northwestward turn on Thursday/Friday. It is still too early to tell if it will impact land.
