Wild lightning strike in Mount Pleasant captured on dashcam

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A lightning strike was captured on an officer’s dashcam Monday as thunderstorms moved through the Mount Pleasant area.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department cruiser was traveling on Highway 17 near Shelmore Boulevard when lightning struck a utility pole.

The lightning strike and explosion knocked out power in the area and caused Highway 17 to close in both directions for several hours.
