Woman shocked from lightning strike while working on laptop inside home, police say

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A woman in West Baton Rouge Parish was on her laptop inside her home when bad weather passed over, causing her to get shocked on Thursday, July 17.

The Brusly Police Department and West Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a home a little before 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Oakleaf Court. They investigated an electrocution from a lightning strike in the backyard of a home.

Brusly PD said the woman was using a laptop that was plugged into the wall when lightning struck outside.

Police confirmed she was in her living room at the time, and the lightning sent a surge that shocked her.

She refused transport to a hospital.

The investigation into how she was shocked remains ongoing.
