Westfield businesses anticipate busy weekend with LIV Golf coming

WESTFIELD, Ind. – Some of the world’s top golfers will head to Hamilton County next week for the LIV Golf tournament at The Club in Chatham Hills in Westfield and local businesses are getting teed up for the busy event ahead.

Birdies is less than a mile from the course. The putt-putt place anticipates a busy weekend ahead when golf fans step away from the fairway.

“We have two 18-hole courses, so they might practice some putting to act like they’re one of the pros,” said owner Kevin Lynch.

Birdies is on par to be fully staffed to handle the influx of people.. They’re also giving folks who don’t have tickets a chance to go see the 54 players on the green.

“We have LIV Golf representatives that come out,” said Lynch. “Anybody that gets a hole in one on the back 18-hole course, which is Grand Boulder, on hole 18, they get a free LIV ticket.”

The city expects an economic impact of more than $35 million, with thousands traveling to the area for the tournament.

“I heard somewhere along the line, like 20,000 people were expected to, like, be in the area,” said General Manager of Urban Vines Kyla Curtis. “I was like, of course, they’re probably gonna want some place to drink afterwards, so I do expect to see the higher number heading to our doors.”

At the winery and their sister location, Urban Apples, they’re getting in on the action by offering “bar golf”.

Golf fans can fill out their scorecard, as they sip.

“Basically, if you get zero or less after the nine holes, you can spin a wheel and win a prize,” said Curtis.

More than 70 businesses throughout Hamilton County are a part of the Beyond the Course program, including Birdies and Urban Vines.

The free online pass gives golf fans deals and discounts between rounds.

“We offer 20% off food in both locations,” said Curtis. “I even downloaded it myself, and I’ve used it in local areas around here, so there’s some pretty good deals.”
