Experimental plane makes emergency landing in Provo after wheel falls off mid-flight

PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — An experimental plane made an emergency landing in Provo on Friday after its landing gear wheel fell off mid-flight, according to Provo Airport.

The aircraft had reportedly been attempting to land at Spanish Fork Airport when it lost its right main landing gear wheel. The pilot was able to maintain flight and flew over to Provo Airport on recommendation from Spanish Fork Fire officials, as Provo Airport reportedly has more rescue capability.

“The aircraft landed on runway 36 with 1 soul on board, there were no injuries,” officials said. “FAA and NTSB were notified and the aircraft was released to the owner to be moved.”

The aircraft has reportedly since been moved to a hangar. Provo Airport has resumed normal operations.

ABC4.com is working to confirm the type of plane involved in this incident.
