Pedestrian in wheelchair hit, killed by Peter Pan bus in University City

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — A pedestrian in a wheelchair was hit and killed by a Peter Pan bus Thursday morning in University City.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the 40-year-old man was panhandling between two lanes of traffic on the 2900 block of Market Street, near 30th Street Station.

Police said around 9:30 a.m., the pedestrian rolled in front of the bus, and the driver did not see the pedestrian. When the traffic light turned green, the bus drove forward and hit the 40-year-old.

The Philadelphia Fire Department medic pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The bus driver stayed at the scene, and no one inside the bus was injured. The crash is under investigation.
