Governor fills Kansas Supreme Court vacancy

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — Governor Laura Kelly has named attorney Larkin Walsh to the Kansas Supreme Court, replacing retiring Justice Evelyn Z. Wilson.

Walsh is senior counsel at Stueve Siegel Hanson, where she focuses on appellate, civil rights, consumer protection, and labor law. She has argued cases before Kansas appellate courts, multiple U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Her background includes eight years as a law clerk for federal and state judges, including U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia and former Kansas Supreme Court Justice Carol Beier. She has also worked in private practice and served on the Kansas Board of Law Examiners and the federal District of Kansas Bench-Bar Committee.

“I am deeply honored by the governor’s trust and grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Kansas,” Walsh said in a statement.

Kansas Supreme Court justices are chosen through a merit-based process and must be approved by voters in the next general election after their appointment.
