Armyworms are attacking yards in Kansas

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Armyworms are back in Kansas this season, but this year there are more than ever.

Armyworms are a type of caterpillar. They target healthy and clean yards, and then they start eating. They can attack your yard and do damage in only 24 hours.

Luckily, there are ways you can prevent them from destroying your yard.

“The only way to control the armyworms is by treating with an insecticide. An insecticide can be found over the counter. It can also be out, as with any professional that is treating for lawns,” Schendel Lawn & Landscape, Cassidy Roberson said. “It’s important, though, if you purchase an insecticide, to read the label and make sure that you’re taking special precautions for yourself.”

Armyworm season starts in the spring but peaks during the summer. The season will end in the fall.
