Multnomah County leaders consider Central Library security improvements after fatal shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Multnomah County commissioners are working to improve security measures at the Central Library.

It comes after a deadly shooting outside the library near SW 10th Avenue and Yamhill Street on July 1. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the victim was pronounced dead.

The suspect, identified as Hassan M. Muse, 26, faces charges including second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

The city and county are working together to boost security, perhaps by adding metal detectors.

For now, there are seven guards on site and WiFi is limited to those who use it inside the library.

More updates are expected to come next month.
