BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run in Denham Springs remains out of jail, on bond.
However, the victim’s family continues to fight for her memory, appearing at every court appearance for 30-year-old Brandon Chenevert.
On Monday, they continued their calls for justice. Cell phone video obtained from the victim’s mother shows friends and family of 20-year-old Jody Mann crying out to Chenevert, chanting “Justice for Jody”.
As Chenevert and his attorney walk by, those chanting say he then flashed a smile as his attorney walked him straight to his car.
Chenevert has had multiple run-ins with the law over the past ten years for alleged serious infractions like careless operation, reckless operation, and DWI.
The 30-year-old now faces a charge of negligent homicide, accused of killing Mann, who was walking on Highway 1023. State police say he drove away, and anonymous tipsters told them he returned to the scene.
Family and friends struggle to make sense of a tragedy that claimed a life too soon.
Chenevert’s next court date is October 20. During court on Monday, Chenevert’s lawyers claimed they didn’t receive all of the necessary evidence.
