Dorothy Kent, 76, was pronounced dead after being freed from beneath the Jeep and transported to a nearby hospital.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, the deadly collision occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Third Street and Liberty Drive.
A witness told investigators they observed Kent walking across Third Street when the Jeep turned off Liberty Drive and struck Kent.
Police spoke with the 77-year-old Bloomington woman who was behind the wheel of the Jeep. She told officers that the traffic light had just turned yellow and she turned onto Third Street, not seeing any oncoming traffic. The driver claimed she never saw the pedestrian and didn’t realize she’d struck someone until the vehicle shook.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated in the investigation, police said. She did not display any signs of intoxication.
Bloomington police said the investigation into the deadly collision is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact the police department.
