All lanes of I-680 reopen in Benicia grass fire
(KRON) — A grass fire at Bayshore Road in Benicia was blocking all lanes of traffic on Interstate 680 Tuesday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol is advising that a severe traffic alert has been issued.

The Benicia Fire Department initially called the blaze a two-alarm fire behind Camel Road. It was later upgraded to a third alarm with additional resources requested.

As of 5:50 p.m., all lanes have reopened.

While initially, the fire was blocking all southbound lanes, a subsequent update indicated that northbound lanes were also blocked. The CHP’s latest update indicated that the no. 2 northbound and southbound lanes had reopened while both no. 1 lanes remained closed for now.

Smoke was first seen on the hillside around 2:36 p.m. with large flames erupting a couple of minutes later, according to the CHP incident log.

Motorists ertr advised to expect delays, use alternate routes. KRON4 has a crew en route to the scene.

As of 3:35 p.m., the Benicia Fire Department said the fire was under control. Crews are expected to remain on the scene for several hours to mop up.
