Need school supplies? These free events in Chicago have you covered

CHICAGO — As the first day of school approaches, several organizations across Chicago are hosting free back-to-school events aimed at easing the financial burden on families.

From school supplies and backpacks to health services and community resources, here’s a list of upcoming giveaways happening in neighborhoods throughout the city:

Beegr8t Back to School Youth Kick Off

When: Thursday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: 9550 S. Genoa Ave.

This event offers free school supplies, creative activities, raffles, giveaways, music and more.

Chicago Public Schools Back to School Bash

When: Thursday, Aug. 7 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Gately Park Stadium (Pullman)

The district’s event will feature free backpacks and school supplies, food, and information about services and support available to students and families throughout the school year.

Chicago Family Health Center Back to School Health Fair

When: Friday, Aug. 8 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: 9119 S. Exchange Ave. (South Chicago Parking Lot)

Families can receive free books, backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, lunch, ice cream, and access to same-day school physicals and dental exams.

Greater Together Back to School Block Party

When: Friday, Aug. 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Gary Comer Youth Center, 7200 S. Ingleside Ave.

This community block party will include free school supplies and backpacks, raffles, food, and access to various community resources.

HOLCD Back to School Jamboree

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: 4650 W. Madison St.

Students can pick up free school supplies, food, and drinks at this west side event.

Angel C. Reese Foundation Back to School Giveaway

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: International Sports Chicago, 1841 N. Laramie Ave.

The foundation is equipping 1,000 Chicago students with new backpacks and school supplies. WNBA star Angel Reese and her mother will speak about back-to-school readiness, mental health, anti-bullying strategies and more.

The Kindness Campaign’s Back 2 School Bash

When: Sunday, Aug. 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: 703 E. 75th St.

The bash will include free backpacks, haircuts, school supplies, community resources, pony rides, bounce houses, games and additional family activities.

Somos Arte Chicago’s Books and Backpacks

When: Sunday, Aug. 17 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Humboldt Park

This event will provide free books, backpacks, and arts and crafts in a creative, community-centered setting.
