In need of new glasses for the 2025-2026 academic year? Well, you’re in luck. Vision to Learn is providing students grades pre-k through 12 with free eye exams and prescription glasses (if needed), at the following D.C. Public Library locations:

Get ready to kick off the school year with a back-to-school carnival filled with live music and DJs, games, face painting, kids’ activities, community resources and free backpacks and school supplies.

Families can visit the Southwest Neighborhood Library anytime from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, to celebrate the new school year with crafts, snacks and giveaways.
The event will take place in the children’s room at the library while supplies last.
Montgomery County Public Schools is welcoming students back to the classroom with its back-to-school fair at the Westfield Wheaton mall, featuring free music, entertainment and giveaways.
The fun will also include an interactive session to teach students bike and electric scooter safety, as well as a free school immunization clinic and an educational community opioid prevention demonstration.
Rather not drive to the fair? Organizers are providing free shuttle bus rides to the fun from five area high schools.

Looking for some new supplies and a fresh haircut ahead of the school year? Look no further than the 2025 Community Impact Day.
On Aug. 23, families can come together at Seat Pleasant Elementary School in Prince George’s County for a day packed with games, wellness activities, resources and giveaways.
Children will receive new bookbags filled with essential school supplies to help them start the year right, along with complimentary haircuts to help them feel their best.

Free school supplies will be up for grabs at Waldorf West Library in Charles County on Aug. 23, just in time to ring in the new academic year.
The community event will provide students with a free backpack and school supplies (while supplies last), and will feature music, entertainment and games for all ages. Refreshments and food will also be available.
“This free community event is all about supporting students and families as they prepare for a new school year. We’re coming together to celebrate, uplift, and equip our youth with the tools they need to succeed—inside and outside the classroom,” organizers wrote regarding the inaugural event.

Captain Cookie & the Milk Man is offering the first 50 kids to visit their Arlington location between noon and 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 a free, freshly baked cookie.
The bakery serves cookies, ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes and other treats at four different locations in the D.C. area.
Calling all teachers! For the entire month of August, teachers can get into the LEGO Discovery Center Washington, D.C. at the Springfield Town Center in Virginia for free to commemorate back-to-school season.
