Monday forecast: Seasonable start to the week before heat and humidity return

A mix of sun and clouds is expected Monday across the Chicago area, offering some seasonably early August temperatures before summer heat builds again later this week.

While a bit of cloud cover will drift in, the hazy skies we’ve seen in recent days will start to clear out.

A stray shower or two is possible during the day, but most locations should stay dry. High temperatures will top out in the low 80s, with slightly cooler readings near the lakefront thanks to a lake breeze.

The break from the heat won’t last long, though. Both temperatures and humidity are expected to climb again in the coming days, signaling a steamy stretch ahead.

Extended Outlook

Chicagoland is poised to see a “stair-stepping” of afternoon temps this week, up toward the 90s for several days at the end of the week.

The humidity will start to ramp up, most likely, on Wednesday. The best chances for some much-needed rainfall are Tuesday late in the day and again on Saturday.
