ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Just over the state line, the Italian Festival returns to Enfield for its 99th year.
The celebration is a tradition for many within the community, whether it be trying new food, their favorite dish, or enjoying the festival with friends. Our Lady of Mount Carmel brought in crowds from all over to enjoy the Italian culture.
“All this great authentic food,” said Our Lady of Mount Carmel President Carl Sfrerazza. “No food trucks or vendors, all made by our members.”
Two new food items also hit the menu this year: pasta rustica and a porchetta sandwich.
“My wife and I come here every year, and usually our older daughter Shannon and her husband come here,” said Scott Santaniello of Springfield. “And they like to eat and have a good time.”
“We came out here obviously because we’re Catholic,” said Jesse Schwenkler of Long Island. “We’re food critics as well, so we came out here to check out the foods.”
The Italian Festival in Enfield runs through Sunday night. The feast will kick off again at 5:00 p.m.
On Sunday morning, Our Lady of Mount Carmel plans to host a traditional Catholic Mass outside in the chapel. A procession will follow afterwards throughout Enfield. This all begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
