The suspect, 23-year-old Jovias Kennedy of Novato, was speeding in a white BMW on Redwood Boulevard near Olive Avenue around 12:47 a.m. when a police officer attempted to pull him over, according to the Novato Police Department. Kennedy allegedly led the officer on a chase through downtown Novato at speeds up to 50 mph.
“The pursuit continued to Marion Avenue, where the BMW struck an embankment, momentarily became airborne, and landed in the front yard of a residence,” Novato PD said.
Kennedy was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. He was later booked into the Marin County Jail for DUI and other charges.
“It is our mission to keep impaired drivers off Novato roadways and reduce injury and fatal collisions,” NPD said. “We remind our community members that impaired driving is never the answer. Call a sober friend, designate a driver, or use a rideshare to get home safely. Together, we can create a safer Novato.”
