SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)— MLB All-Star Seth Lugo isn’t going anywhere, and that’s just how the Royals want it.

Seth Lugo is a right-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Royals. This season, he has an 8-5 win/loss record with a 3.03 ERA (earned runs average) and 104 strikeouts. Being one of their most reliable arms, the Royals knew they had to keep the Centenary Alum.

Lugo played his college career at Centenary College of Louisiana right here in Shreveport from 2009-2011. The New York Mets would then select him in the 34th round in the 2011 MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 2016 when he relieved for the Mets.

Lugo would then bounce between starting and relieving during his tenure with New York. In December of 2022, Lugo signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Padres. He then became a free agent in 2023 and would eventually sign a 3 year $43 million contract with the Royals.

In 2024, Lugo was named to the MLB All-Star team after having a strong first half of the season, during which he led the MLB in innings pitched, tied for the MLB lead in wins, and led the American League in ERA. He finished 2nd in the American League Cy Young award vote.

On July 27, 2025, Lugo signed a 2 year, $46 million contract with the Kansas City Royals.

The Centenary Alumni hopes to continue a great season to help propel his team into the playoffs this October.
