A downtown marketplace for local makers is closing.
Farmhouse Market opened two years ago at at 121 S. Franklin Ave. and expanded its space six months later.
Kristy Vander Ziel, who owns the business with her husband, Phil, pointed to a challenging economy and her cost of rent in announcing the news on social media.
The combination “has put a lot of stress on us,” she said. “We’re feeling the crunch, and we just felt like now’s the time just to bow out and maybe go a different direction for a while.”
In addition to their own merchandise, Farmhouse Market offers items from 10 independent vendors.
Most of the inventory has sold.
Final hours will be 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
“It’s been fun, but it’s time to move onto something else,” Vander Ziel said, acknowledging the support the business has received from the community. “Thank you so much.”
Farmhouse Market plans to reopen as a vendor within Maker’s Exchange in Tea in September.
The downtown Sioux Falls space is listed for lease with Bender Commercial Real Estate Services.
