SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – John Hoffman has been receiving a whirlwind of good news lately. Earlier this year, the Shreveport drummer emerged victorious, beating out thousands in the national search for a drummer for the legendary group Primus. Now, his hometown is honoring him with one of the city’s highest recognitions.

The group Primus is currently on tour and added a Shreveport date, an opportunity that allowed Hoffman to visit his hometown not too long after earning a spot in the California-based group.

A visit turned out to give him more than just a sense of nostalgia.

Hoffman announced on Facebook that he received a mayor signed proclamation officially naming July 29, “John Hoffman Day”.

A recognition that he says leaves him speechless.

“This is an unbelievable honor…I don’t even know what to say. Thank you to EVERYONE for the overwhelming support I’ve been shown, and thank you to the City of Shreveport for bestowing such an honor on me. I’m beyond grateful.”

The document names the achievement for his contribution to Shreveport’s already existing rich history in music.

The official proclamation reads, “WHEREAS, music is a vital part of the City of Shreveport’s heritage and culture, and is maintained by new and constantly emerging talent from among its citizens; and WHEREAS, Shreveport’s John Hoffman has been selected from over 6,200 worldwide applicants as the new drummer for the internationally acclaimed rock band, Primus; and WHEREAS, John “Hoffer” Hoffman exemplifies the passion, creativity, and professionalism for which the city’s music is known throughout the world; and NOW, THEREFORE I, Tom Arceneaux, Mayor of the City of Shreveport, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, as JOHN “HOFFER” HOFFMAN DAY”

John posted a photo with the official paper, standing proudly with his proclamation in his signature look of white sunglasses.

He ended the post with an excited ” READY TO ROCK, SHREVEPORT!! LET’S GO!!!”

If you missed his Shreveport performance, with a short drive, you can catch John and Primus at their next tour stop at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, TX on July 30, 2025.

According to the group webpage, they will continue to tour until early August, wrapping up the last leg of the tour in California.
