According to the California Highway Patrol, units responded to a 10-vehicle crash on Highway 101 just south of Vermont Street. One of the drivers involved attempted to flee the scene on foot, according to the CHP.
That driver, who the CHP identified as an adult female, allegedly entered a business and assaulted an employee prior to the accident. The female drove off from the scene of the assault in a white Chevy pickup truck and got on the highway.
The suspect was headed north and driving recklessly, the CHP said, when she was involved in the crash. She was apprehended by CHP officers while attempting to flee on foot.
The suspect is currently in the hospital being treated for minor injuries. Five or six other people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries or as a precaution, police said.
The San Francisco Police Department is also responding, and officials believe the driver who fled on foot may have crashed into other vehicles prior to getting on the freeway. The CHP is also working to determine if the suspect collided with other vehicles prior to getting on the highway.
Drivers are advised to expect residual delays.
